Edward J. Kopf, Ph.D.

Disciplines: Management Consultant and Mediator

Edward J. Kopf has over twenty-five years experience in leadership positions in finance, operations, marketing, and strategic planning. In addition, he has consulted extensively with owners, executives, and boards of large and small corporations on a wide variety of management and financial issues. Prior to joining BMC Associates, he served in the following roles:

  • Chief Financial Officer, Ariel Research Corporation, Bethesda, Maryland. Joined this closely-held company to help its owners arrange for its sale. This was successfully consummated through the purchase of Ariel’s assets by Eastman Chemical Company, a NYSE company. 2001-2003.
  • Executive Vice President, U.S. Digital Communications, Inc., Bethesda, Maryland. Responsibilities included financial management, fundraising in public and private markets, SEC compliance, mergers and acquisitions, management assistance for subsidiaries, and general operations of this publicly-traded telecommunications holding company, 1998-2000.
  • President, American Political Network, Inc., Alexandria, Virginia. Responsible for all aspects of the financial, operations, technical, and marketing performance of this publisher of on-line daily news services. Led the company as it extended product lines, tripled commercial sales, achieved initial profitability, and maintained continual annual growth in earnings. Successfully realized substantial capital gains sought by shareholders through the sale of operations to a major media company. 1992-1996.
  • Vice President, Corporate Planning, Circuit City Stores, Inc., Richmond, Virginia. Responsible for strategic planning for a rapidly growing national retail chain and served on the company’s Management Committee. Responsibilities included corporate planning, budgeting, market research, and expansion and acquisition strategies. Coordinated an expansion program that increased corporate sales from $705 million in 1985 to 2.3 billion in 1990. 1985-1990. Director of Marketing and Advertising, 1982-1985. Assistant to the President, 1981-1982.
  • Assistant Professor of History, Virginia Commonwealth University, Richmond, Virginia. Taught courses on late nineteenth and early twentieth century American social and urban history, with a concentration on urban planning and development. 1975-1981.
